Beyond the lens

This weekend was exceptional. My best friends inspired my soul and made me believe that anything is possible.

One of my dearest friends is an incredibly talented hair stylist that is undoubtedly on a path towards unimaginable success. When she told me she wanted to do a photo shoot to display her range in hair styling capabilities, I had no idea she would be taking me on a roller coaster of creativity.

My good friend showed me her brilliant ability to transform hair into an inspiring canvas that any makeup artist and photographer would be lucky to work with. Her capability to so perfectly craft a precise look and era, inspired me to look through my lens with different eyes and capture the true essence of her work.

Coincidently, the model for our photo shoot is another very dear friend of mine. A person who radiates beauty from within, someone who is truly amazing. She had never modeled before, and yet, she is the best model I’ve ever come across. I don’t believe any of us knew what we were all capable of, and when it all came together, it blew our minds.

Pass me that Kale!

This weekend I discovered that Kale is amazing. Not only because of its fantastic nutritional value, but also because of the many different ways you can incorporate it in your diet.

First things first, let’s the Kale is a highly nutritious vegetable with powerful antioxidant properties; and it is considered to be anti-inflammatory. Kale is very high in beta carotene, Vitamin K, Vitamin C, lutein, zeaxanthin and calcium! Kale is also high in sulforaphane, a chemical believed to have potent anti-cancer properties!

How does one eat Kale?
Steamed or sautéed Kale is delicious, you can make it with our favorite type of nuts or spices!
If you want to add a massive amount of Kale to your diet you can try this awesome shake! I tried it for the first time this weekend and I fell in love with it.

Kale Shake

·         1 cup of strawberries

·         1 cup of blueberries

·         2 cups of water

·         1 scoop of your favorite protein or whey powder

·         1 Kale bunch

·         Blend all of the ingredients and add some Stevia to sweeten it up a bit more!

RIP Maria Schneider

Maria Schneider, who starred with Marlon Brando in Last Tango in Paris, has died of cancer in Paris at 58. She set the new standard for explicitness in the 1972 movie that shocked audiences all over the world. Let's just say this 'butter' scene was completely unexpected.

Cook Sexy, thank me later.

If you really want to cook for your boyfriend and girlfriend this Valentine’s Day (or any other day) why not treat them to a sexy, easy and aphrodisiac meal?
Making a sexy dinner is easier than you think; you just have to remember this is going to be a playful and sexy meal for both of you, not exactly a meat and potatoes kinda dinner.

First, all (and by all I mean most of them) the ingredients used for your sexy dinner are aphrodisiacs, and I will explain each one of them:

V-Day Dinner Menu:

Appetizer: Raw Oysters garnished with fresh basil (if oysters are out of your comfort zone,  eat it anyways, time to try something new!)
Main entrée: Chili Pepper and Avocado Cream over Chilean Sea Bass
Dessert: Chocolate Fondue
Beverage: Vino!

Ingredient list and why it will make your dinner sexier than you could ever imagine:

Oysters (6 to 10 –depending on how much you love (or hate) them): a lot of people say they are aphrodisiac because they are high in zinc, others say it’s because it reminds us of a woman’s vulva, whatever the reason may be, oysters are an incredible aphrodisiac.

Basil (to taste): Basil not only makes the meals smell and taste better, but it also has a lot of beneficial effects on human body. Basil has a fantastic aroma that is said to have an aphrodisiac effect; it is also very stimulating.

Chili peppers (2): Chili is high in capsaicin, the substance that makes the peppers spicy - Capsaicin raises your heartbeat, leading to perspiration, releasing endorphins that are most likely to trigger feelings similar to those experienced during sexual arousal.

Avocado (1-peeled and quartered): Avocado is associated with fertility, and it lives up to it’s Aztec name ahuacati, actually meaning testicles. Besides, this super food is high in antioxidants, fiber, and monounsaturated fat, so it won’t hurt to add it to your meal!

Chilean sea bass (2 fillets): The sea bass is a good option for being low in calories, high in protein and a good source of magnesium. You can replace it with a different fish – just try sticking to fish to make your meal lighter, you don’t want to feel heavy and gross.

Plus: 4 oz of sour cream, ½ cup milk, salt and pepper to taste.

For the dessert:

Chocolate (2 bars of your favorite): no brainer. Releases happy neurotransmitters such as endorphins and other opiates that help to reduce stress and lead to feelings of euphoria.

Strawberries (as many as you want to feed each other): Why are they sexy? Perhaps because they resemble nipples…but they are also a rich source of vitamin C and it will go perfect dipped on your chocolate fondue!

Beverage:

Vino! I’d say 1 to 2 bottles is sufficient. No romantic dinner is complete without a good bottle of wine to enhance the taste of your food and get you both in a sexy frisky mood!

How to prepare:

1)      Appetizer: Buy oysters raw on the half shell. Place the oysters on a dish over some ice and thick salt – to keep them in place.  Arrange them nicely with lemon wedge, some hot sauce and garnish with fresh basil (basil is optional)

2)      Main course:

·         Season the thawed Chilean Sea Bass with a few teaspoons of your favorite spices.

·         Dice the Chili pepper, retain the seeds if you want some extra heat. Oh yeah!

·         In a blender, mix the chili, 1/2 avocado, the milk, and sour cream. Puree it until smooth.

·         In a skillet, sauté the sea bass filets over high heat, about 1 minute each side. Reduce heat and cook a few more minutes each side.

·         On individuals plates make a bed of the avocado/chili cream, place the sea bass on top and garnish with a few slices of avocado!

·         Pair this meal with your favorite wine and thank me later ;-)

Oh yeah, if you even make it to dessert, make this easy chocolate fondue right on your stove top. Get 2 of your favorite chocolate bars (I like the Ghirardelli or Lindt) and melt the chocolate in a glass or metal bowl over a pot with a small amount simmering water until the chocolate is completely melted. Pick the largest strawberries of the bunch, wash them, place them in a bowl and feed each other away!  

This is an overall light and healthy meal, that will be fun and different to eat together.

Don’t forget to enhance the mood by adding tons of candle (scentless please!) and some sexy music! Gents: make the night even MORE special by surprising her with a nice gift.

My picks for this V-Day

If I could predict the future, I'd predict that I'll be spending this years Valentine's Day with a girlfriend, a gay friend or my mom. I honestly don't mind it at all, but if could choose someone to spend it with...it would most definitely be a 7 way tie between the breath takers below.

Last weekend I discovered a new great shampoo! I've become very spoiled only using Kerastase products on my hair for the past 2 years, and venturing with new shampoos only made my feelings for Kerastase grow stronger. However, two weekends ago I spent the night at my best friend's house and I tried her shampoo. Turns out my hair looked lovely! Just as lovely as when I use my Kerastase! If you haven't tried the Organix brand of hair care, then go out and try it now! I loved it so much that the next day I went to the pharmacy and bought the Morrocan Argan Oil line. It is absolutely wonderful and won't break the bank. It's only about 7 bucks at any drugstore!

Adding light under your eyes is a great makeup tip and we should all learn how to highlight that area properly, it makes our eyes brighter and bigger. However, the Desperate Housewives star must have done her makeup in the dark or without a mirror. Looking like a racoon is a major DON'T.

National Treasure

Whenever someone thinks of Brazil, they think of beaufitul women, beautiful beaches and 'carnaval'! Now, what many people don't know about is Brazil's signature drink, the "Caipirinha". Today the Caipirinha is an international beverage, but not everyone knows about it.

What is a "capirinha"? It is a mixture of  cachaça, lime, sugar and ice. In Brazil it is served everywhere, and with many fruit variations, such as strawberries, lychee, kiwi and pretty much whatever fruit you want to experiment with.

Cachaça can be found at any liquor store now a days, it is generally near the Rums and I recommend either the Leblon or the 51 cachaça brands. (If you want you can totally substitute the cachaça for vodka! This variation is called Caipiroska!)

Now, for the perfect cairpinha:

Indredients:
1 lime

2 ounces of cachaça (or vodka)

2 tablespoons of white granulated sugar (or more if you like it sweeter)

muddler

First cut the lime in half and remove the white part in the middle, it is very bitter

 Second cut the lime in wedges

 Add the sugar

Gently muddle the sugar and lime for about 15 seconds

Add the cachaça or the vodka

Fill the glass with cubes of ice or crushed ice

Stir it or shake it and serve it up!

Russian tennis player, Ekaterina Makarova was forced to change outfits in the middle of the game because the chair umpire determined the logo on her shirt was too big! Are you serious? I have seen logos on athletes shirts waaaaaaaaaaay larger than that! Why are they picking on female tennis players lately?! First they picked on my girl Venus, and now poor Ekaterina? Girl's gotta bring the bacon home, let her wear her sponsor's logo!

Ke$ha makes yet another poor wardrobe and makeup choice

First I'd like to start by saying that I appreciate her courage to be different and make fashion statements, much like Lady Gaga, Rihanna and Katy Perry do on a daily basis. The only difference is that they don't look beastly while doing it. 
Let's start with the makeup. WTF? 
Her eyes look like they were done by a 5 year old, and did she just suck on a lollipop for hours to get that lip color? Amazing. 
Moving on to the....shirt? Can we even call that a shirt? Whatever I wear to paint the walls of my house doesn't look as raggedy and old as this crap. I don't even think homeless people wear stuff that's in this bad of shape. 
Now, on to my favorite part - the crotch/leg/whatever area. WTF? Really, what is that? Is it underwear? Is it a 'Depends' camouflaged?! If it is, it looks like she already had an accident. Lastly, these horrendous fish nets are like the icing on top of a horrible, disgusting cake that NO ONE wants to eat!!! BLEH KE$HA!!!

It appears glowing cotton candy is all the rage now!!! I'm not even a fan of cotton candy, but I'd definitely eat it if it were glowing!!! FUUUUUN!!!

If Heidi is doing it...it must mean it's in! I don't know about you girls...but I'm not feeling the eye patch trend...the only upside to hiding one of your eyes is that you'll save money by only have to wear makeup in one eye! Yay!

Soooo who's loving Nicki Minaj's hair these days?! She was spotted in London recently sporting this interesting do! I like the do, but I prefer the usual stripped look! What do YOU think?!

I am posting this article because this is something I never knew about before and it is now deeply affecting the life of a loved one.

When we think of headaches we think about that annoying pain somewhere in your head or neck, and it is generally something that can be easily relieved by taking a painkiller such as aspirin or ibuprofen. For others, a headache is synonym of a nightmare. A nightmare that will last for days, weeks or even months. Many of you haven’t heard of about this headache, but the Cluster Headache is something that affects only about 0.1% of the population, and my mom is one of them.

Cluster Headache is also known as the ´suicide headache’. The cause of this headache is currently unknown. ‘Clusters’ refers to the tendency of the attacks to occur periodically and the attacks can range from 15 minutes to 3 hours at a time. The pain of this specific headache is greater than any other headache condition and several female sufferers say the pain is much worse than childbirth. Some doctors say this is probably the worst pain a human can experience. It is described as a stabbing pain located behind the eye or the temple, frequently radiating to the shoulder and neck. 

At the moment there is no cure for this headache, and no effective treatment.
